Health Benefits of Vaping: 5 Facts You Need to Know

The number of people who vape is increasing year by year. Currently there are more than 40 million vapers in the world. According to Reuters, in the US there are roughly 10.8 million vapers.  Moreover, the number of vapers in other countries such as UK has also increased. The health benefits of vaping have prompted many smokers to switch from tobacco smoking to vaping. The table below shows the number of vapers worldwide from 2011 to 2018:

In this post I will name some health benefits of vaping and why you should consider switching from tobacco smoking to vaping.

1. Best Method for Smoking Cessation

We all know that tobacco smoking is the primary cause of lung cancer and heart disease in the world. In addition, many studies have proved that vaping is a more efficient smoking cessation method than nicotine replacement therapies. Vaping keeps the hand to mouth and mouth to lung habits and therefore, switching from tobacco to vaping isn’t a drastic change.

It’s very important to choose the right nicotine strength if you plan to quit smoking. Choose the right nicotine strength to avoid craving for tobacco. For example, if you were a heavy smoker, then nicotine e-liquids ranging from 12 mg/ml to 18 mg/ml are a good nicotine concentration for you.

In addition, it has been proved its effectiveness compared to other smoking cessation methods such as nicotine gums or nicotine patches. For example, recent studies have shown that 18% of patients treated with e-cigarettes quit smoking. On the other hand, patients that used nicotine replacement therapies had a lower successful rate as only 10% of patients who used nicotine replacement therapies quit smoking.

If you plan to quit smoking, then vaping is a good choice for you!

2. Vaping Doesn’t Stain your Teeth or Give You a Bad Breath

Long term use of tobacco can yellow your teeth and even your hands. The chemicals present in tobacco can cause this unpleasant effect. Moreover, expensive teeth whitening therapies are required to remove tobacco stains.

There are studies that proved that vaping doesn’t leave teeth stains. Tobacco turns healthy looking white teeth into a brown/yellow unhealthy color.

Vaping doesn’t produce any smoke, which means that there’s no tar production. Hence, there’s no tar build up on teeth.

Tobacco smoking doesn’t just stain your teeth, but it also affects your gums. Therefore, one the most important health benefits of vaping is that it will improve your oral health.

3. Versatile: Variety of E-liquids, Flavors and Nicotine Strengths

Although it is not a health benefit, the variety of liquids and nicotine strengths make vaping a very versatile option that will allow you to control the amount of nicotine you consume.

You can keep a good track of your nicotine consumption. For example, you can start with high nicotine concentrations and progressively reduce your nicotine consumption if that’s what you want. Nicotine e-liquids come in a wide variety of strengths, from more than 36 mg/ml to just 4mg/ml and even lower. Some vapers start with nicotine e-juices and they end up vaping non-nicotine ones.

It’s not a health benefit of vaping, however, this versatility can attract many smokers and convince them to switch from a deadly smoking habit to a much healthier alternative.

4. Cost-effective

It depends where you live, but in many countries, tobacco is heavily taxed. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from 2012 to 2016 the e-cigarette sales increased as product prices decreased. In addition, CDC states that “the average monthly e-cigarette sales rate as summed across all product types sold increased by 132% during this timeframe”.

Again, not exactly a health benefit of vaping. However, we can talk about secondhand smoker and secondhand vapers. Secondhand smoking is very harmful while secondhand vaping isn’t harmful at all.

According to CDC, since the 1964 Surgeon General’s Report, 2.5 million adults who were nonsmokers died because they breathed secondhand smoke.

The health benefits of vaping are many and secondhand vaping doesn’t affect passive vapers at all. The vapor is mostly water which means that it won’t affect people around you when you’re vaping.

Health Benefits of Vaping: Conclusion

Vaping has many health benefits compared to tobacco smoking. It’s a good method for smoke cessation and in many countries, it’s even cheaper than tobacco smoking.

Vaping doesn’t produce any tar and therefore you won’t get stains on your teeth and hands. Moreover, vaping doesn’t leave any odors and secondhand smoking isn’t dangerous. In conclusion, vaping is mostly water and people around you won’t get affected by it.
